Jonathan Brewster is a character in the play "Arsenic and Old Lace" written by Joseph Kesselring. He is the long-lost son of the Brewster family and has become a notorious criminal, known for his many murders, including one involving a 15-year-old girl that he buried in the basement of his aunts' home.
Jonathan comes back to his aunts' home along with his accomplice, Dr. Einstein, in order to hide out from the police. However, he ends up getting involved in a series of comedic misadventures with his eccentric family, including his two sweet and innocent aunts who also happen to be serial killers.
Throughout the play, Jonathan is portrayed as a menacing and dangerous figure, but he also has moments of vulnerability and humor. He is a complex character who adds to the overall zaniness of the play's plot.
